The Aya Education Coalition consists of organizations and advocates committed to strengthening the Black educator pipeline and Black student achievement across California.

Derived from the Adinkra symbol meaning "endurance" and "resourcefulness," Aya embodies the spirit of resilience and innovation that drives our work.

Research underscores the impact Black educators have on all students, including improved academic outcomes, higher college aspirations, and a more inclusive and affirming school environments.

Black educators remain critically underrepresented, with fewer than 10,223 Black teachers employed in the state during the 2023-2024 school year.

The Aya Education Coalition unites organizations from across California to help test our theory of change: infuse advocacy into the career arc of teachers as a retention strategy itself.
